Fall fun in November - still blooming

Image
It’s the end of October and it’s still dry but surprisingly the yard is still mostly green! Today is a beautiful cool sunny day.  We’ve had a few frosty mornings but only tenderest of plants were affected. The basil, the impatiens and begonias are gone but the more colorful snapdragons and rudbeckias are still ablaze! Temperatures are holding steady in the mid 50s and above freezing at night!  Apparently a true Indian summer comes after a “killing frost” and we certainly have not experienced one of those yet! Nicotiana Variegated liriope Hybrid rudbeckia Japanese anenome Autumn Joy sedum I don’t recall ever enjoying an Indian summer   and while that would be nice, we really need rain! Maybe on Sunday night. PS  It rained last night after trick or treating was done!! Hooray!

Change is not always good!

We went to the new and improved Olga's restaurant.  It certainly was new- a new location and a new concept.  You must order at the counter from a menu high in the air or on your phone, from a clueless staffer who didn't seem to appreciate questions he couldn't answer. No table service is not appreciated at our age! It certainly was not improved. R didn't approve of their brand of soft drinks-she requires Coke Zero or at least Coke products. We both got water. Haha. They were out of diet Pepsi too. We ordered, paid, picked up cutlery, napkins and water and received a number to place on our table.  We both ordered the Olga's classic with a salad and fries.  I was very disappointing when the food arrived because while the food was tasty enough it was COLD...especially the fries. I am not a fan of cold food!! I think I need to do more research before choosing a lunch spot for our Wednesday lunch.

Making memories with children ( lots of pics/ no editing)

A visit from family from Alaska is a great time to make memories. They came for just 8 days so we got half— 4 whirlwind  days! Cousins! Playing Sorry  So many shoes! Playing Mind the Gap. Day 1  The Zoo Goes Boo …..with aunt, uncle and cousin Asher! It was wet and chilly but that meant it was not crowded and lots of treats! These guys were SO loud! Day2   Grand Rapids Township Park! Sunny and warm! Amazing park for kids! Then out to Allendale to visit with cousins on Dad’s side while I went to New2You . Day 3   The Grand Rapids Museum.  While it started out sunny, it eventually changed into the cloudy, windy, and rainy day that was forecasted.  A bonus and unexpected hail storm with thunder and lightning made us thankful to be dry and warm in the car! They are fascinated by the Tesla truck and there was this one and they wanted a picture! Learning how to make pills! They each got a turn! A late lunch at The Chance where it was freezing cold…. ...
