Happy February

Image
I know it's not quite February yet but it should be since second semester starts on Monday. Yesterday I went to the last swim meet that will ever be held at Calvin's pool. This Spring the whole complex is being torn down and a large fitness center will be built. http://www.calvin.edu/building/ Here's the link if you want to see what it is going to look like. At yesterday's meet the senior students were honored.. at least mentioned. The girls all got a rose and the poor boys didn't. Afterwards there was food (of course) the seniors... and some kind comments by the coach and some of the other students. One of the parents put together a ppp of the seniors which was fun to watch. The parents of the seniors were asked to send in pictures...most of the seniors were surprised since they didn't get to choose or censor the pictures. Here are a few pictures. There was cake too... oops!

I guess I spoke too soon. The swim team often feels like it is neglected but the web site did mention them. Here's the posting below! Finally, the Calvin men's and women's swimming and diving teams split a pair of non-conference dual meets Saturday afternoon at Calvin's Bergsma Natorium with the women edging the visiting Tartars 124-119 while the men were defeated by Wayne State 143-90. Calvin vs Hope

Image
After years of very close rivalry, Calvin and Hope played basketball today in the Calvin fieldhouse. It was, of course, a full house and the game as usual was very exciting. Satistically the series between these two colleges was tied. Today Hope won with a three pointer at the buzzer!! It was very exciting....they tell me. I was at the swim meet between Calvin and Wayne State Univ. That meet was also very exciting but in a much differnet way. It's a shame they were both scheduled for the same day and at the same time. Here's something from Calvin's web page: The 163rd meeting between Calvin and Hope in men's basketball proved to be another classic with the visiting Flying Dutchmen pulling out a 65-62 victory at the Calvin Fieldhouse. Calvin led 28-26 at halftime and had a chance to tie or take the lead with under a minute to play but could not score in the final minute of play. Hope now leads in the all-time series 82-81 . A pair of freshmen led Calvin in scoring...

new floor

we finally have the new floor in the family room. Instead of buying new furniture we are thinking of putting all the frontroom furniture in there while we tear out the carpet and have the floors refinished.
