Restaurant food vs home cooking

Image
We are eating out a bit more lately. For me, it has not been the most positive experience.  I love over-medium fried eggs. The whites are cooked and the yolk a bit runny.  If they are too hard that’s okay, if they are undercooked that’s not okay!   I have been out for breakfast 3 times at the same breakfast place with three different parties. They first time the eggs were okay, the second time perfect but the third time they were pretty much raw.  The sweet waitress offered to get me new ones and came back with ones that were even less cooked. My companions had perfectly cooked food. We went to a steakhouse and they were out of my choice of steak so I asked for grilled chicken on my salad.  It was almost too dry to eat. My companions had perfectly cooked steaks and sides. The hubby and I went back to the steakhouse because he really enjoyed his steak the first time. He ordered the same. I ordered a steak and house fries. I left half of the “steak” on my p...

Rental inspection ---passed

Image
I found a “new” gas range for an apartment.  Would you believe the old range had a knob missing that was no longer available? So I got a different range so I could pass the inspection.   The range was in much need of a good cleaning. Not a pleasant job!! It is a pretty range! It is always surprising to me how long it takes to do a simple job.   We loaded up and delivered the range up two flights of stairs (up my basement stairs into the car and then up the stairs to the tenant's apartment). That was so much more difficult than I imagined it would be!   We took out the old one, installed the new one....dirty floors! Took out the old and installed a new toilet too.  The old one was OLD and heavy! The sink sprayer hose must be attached... I was hoping the inspector would give me a few weeks so we could put in a new counter and sink but no...I have a week!  Handymen are so busy right now! We are going to cap the hole.  He'll be happy with that. One t...

Flowers

Since it is still pretty ugly outside, I bought some spring.  I had placed them in different spots but then decided that I needed “a garden”!

So ready for SPRING

Image
So ready for spring! The time changed last night too! It is snowing this morning! The bedroom was a breezy 51 degrees when I got up!  In the meantime, I enjoy pictures of the happy faces of the two youngest grands! They are 2 and 4 and are learning how to ski!! They love books! And rainbow crowns! The 2 year LOVES the chairlift. The 4 year old doesn’t like to do turns on the ski slopes because she wants to go FAST!  I also included a picture of the oldest granddaughter (#24) playing in her last basketball game of middle school. I can’t believe she will turn 14 in two weeks! Time flies!

Code compliance

Image
It’s been  a busy few weeks.  The city has a code compliance office that sends its inspectors to rental properties in our fair city once every four years. I have recently learned that it now can also issue 6 year certificates to well-maintained properties. I do hope that we get a 6 year certificate this time if only just to alleviate the stress. The property must meet all city standards and gives you only 2 weeks to fix all that is not up to code. It also is not cheap! Our property has four apartments and each is “inspected” and charged individually and in addition there is a building inspection fee. It’s a good way to get rid of “slum”landlords but one still hears complaints about the poor condition of rentals. The house needed one smoke detector and a junction box cover. Apartment #1 had no issues probably because it was recently had a good clean and has a new tenant.  ( I always clean the apartments between tenants in order to inspect them well!) . Apartment #2 ...
