We spent Thanksgiving in Phoenix with John and Sally Leder. We had a wonderfully relaxing time copy the link to see the pictures. We even drove all the way to Salome to Paula and Bert in their winter hide-away. http://picasaweb.google.com/acleder/Phoenix?authkey=Lu6VDOFRt6E#

Yesterday was Reformation Day

Yesterday was Reformation Day and my students these days don't really have much to say about it. They think it only has to do with the reformed church. So I decided to look for something that I could send them and found this document with the 95 theses Martin Luther posted on the church door in Wittenberg in 1517. Some of them are kind of interesting and the language is much stronger than we dare use today. (and NO, I did not send this to my students.) _Disputation of Doctor Martin Luther on the Power and Efficacy of Indulgences_ by Dr. Martin Luther, 1517 Published in: _Works of Martin Luther_ Adolph Spaeth, L.D. Reed, Henry Eyster Jacobs, et Al., Trans. & Eds. (Philadelphia: A. J. Holman Company, 1915), Vol. 1, pp. 29-38. houseboat trip in Kentucky

Image
Five couples from church spent a weekend on a houseboat on Cumberland Lake in Kentucky. It was the perfect weekend: 80 degree temp. no wind and blazing autumn colors. Besides that it was the perfect way to relax. We had some cell phone reception but no computers. It was great!

Nathania and Storman's visit

Nathania and Storman were here for a week. They are on their way to Chicago as I write this. It was really good to have them here and sad to see them go. We had a very nice reception for them last Saturday. We went to Avenue Q with them...that was fun! I would not recommend it to everyone ...but it was funny and scandalous! Tomorrow I am going to see Fuente Ovejuna in Stratford, Ontario with some friends. My birthday present!

something cute I got from a friend

GREAT TRUTHS THAT LITTLE CHILDREN HAVE LEARNED : 1) No matter how hard you try, you can't baptize cats. 2) When your Mom is mad at your Dad, don't let her brush your hair 3) If your sister hits you, don't hit her back. They always catch the second person. 4) Never ask your 3-year old brother to hold a tomato. 5) You can't trust dogs to watch your food. 6) Don't sneeze when someone is cutting your hair. 7) Never hold a Dust-Buster and a cat at the same time. 8) You can't hide a piece of broccoli in a glass of milk. 9) Don't wear polka-dot underwear under white shorts. 10) The best place to be when you're sad is Grandpa's lap. GREAT TRUTHS THAT ADULTS HAVE LEARNED : 1) Raising teenagers is like nailing Jell-O to a tree. 2) Wrinkles don't hurt. 3) Families are like fudge...mostly sweet, with a few nuts. 4) Today's mighty oak is just yesterday's nut that held its ground. 5) Laughing is good exercise. It's like jogging on the inside 6) Mid...

A Quick trip to BC

Image
Arie and I just got back from Smithers, BC. This is where my sister Louise and her husband Mack call home and where they just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Along with their children and grandchildren, all of the siblings and their husbands or wives and many nieces and nephews and their children were there to help celebrate. There were 67 of us in all ...quite a crowd...but we figured that there could have been 60 more. We are quite the clan. Mack's brother Harry also came to help celebrate from Hawaii. We flew to Vancouver and then drove to Smithers with Chris and John. Vancouver-Smithers is at least 13 hours by car! It's a good thing we all like to talk! The eight Grim siblings with their spouses the WHOLE gang brother Harry with Louise and Mack
