Voodoo doughnuts- an adventure

In Portland on a “free” day , Sarah  and I decided to venture downtown in search of the famous Voodoo donuts! We had a choice of a trolley, a tram or the bus! She had an app so away we went.  It was not as easy as I thought it would be and Portland is not flat and it was hot! We got to bus stop feeling hot and sweaty and very unsure of ourselves and then we figured out we missed the bus. We trekked back to  the house for better directions and scored some free bus passes!

We had to hurry  for about 6 blocks in the sun and uphill to the trolley stop and we made it !!

Hooray!

The kids enjoyed this new experience- riding the trolley!

We made it and lined up to get our donuts.  They have a guard at the door to regulate “traffic” and to provide security...we were not in the best part of town. It was a bit unsettling!

Voodoo donuts does not have a seating area so out we went with our special PINK box in search of a place to sit and take a bite!,  We  walked for a long time and then there was a potty emergency- there are no public restrooms anywhere because of the homeless population!

We found a lovely coffee shop (Java Man)... great coffee, calm and cool atmosphere and a restroom for customers. It was a very pleasant oasis for tired travelers lol! The cool plant filled place made the coffee taste so good!

I would definitely recommend it!

A few blocks down we found a beautiful square with lots of people, food trucks and tables with chairs and umbrellas! We got drinks and lunch before we headed back! Delicious in so many ways!

We easily got the trolley back , got off at the correct stop and walked downhill to the “house”!

The donuts were huge and so good. We ate half and planned to eat some for dessert after dinner and put the box in our basket in the communal fridge! Unfortunately, that distinctive pink box was a true temptation for someone else and it disappeared with someone later in the afternoon!

We hope they enjoyed their stolen donuts!! Normally, this would not be a big deal but after all we did to get them , we were NOT pleased!

Unpleasant experiences can become great stories...I guess!
