Restaurant dilemma !

A romantic dinner for two a few days after Valentine’s Day...of course.

We received a gift card for Christmas which allowed us to choose one of two places, so we chose the one that was somewhat less expensive to see if our gift card would cover the entire meal.

We had dined at the pricier place a few times before and expected this one to be nice but not tacky! It was tacky! The booth we squeezed into was the smallest we had ever experienced. We could have and should have asked for a different place to sit but we did not want to be a bother. It was “fine”! The table top was worn and missing paint... but I guess it was clean!  On the bright side, there were nice big cloth napkins...they tried! On that basis we would not recommend this place!

The waiter was very polite and helpful but VERY busy! He took our drink order and we waited!  He took our appetizer order and then we waited!! The appetizers was very good...crispy fried calamari! No complaints from the hubby! He LOVES calamari!!! The picture is of the empty plate!!

The waiter came back and took our entrĂ©e order.  Hubby ordered steak with cheesy spaghetti squash and broccolini and I was foolishly enticed by the special of the day: fried swordfish covered with a decadent sauce on a smear of mashed potatoes and topped with roasted broccolini.  That does sound good , right?  So we waited again!!!

The food was well plated. Hubby had a wonderful meal. He loved the sides and the steak was cooked perfectly!

The swordfish was not!! It was dry and tasted like it had been sauced much, much earlier and it was top with two very disappointing looking broccoli spears!

I did express my disappointment as nicely as possible! ( I’m getting better at that). The waiter was apologetic and wanted to make it right but I had to decide how they might do that! I hate that!!! I should have just told him to take it back and take it off the bill- hindsight is 20/20 , right? Anyway while hubby thoroughly enjoyed his meal , I waited for the kitchen to prepare another plate of the same swordfish for me! ...and I waited !!!!

The new dish finally came- it looked beautiful and tasted awesome!

I was not that hungry anymore and had to eat “by myself “. That is just not very enjoyable! I took most of it home!

They did give us each a shot of in-house made limoncello!

The check surprised us somewhat but hey...that’s life! The gift card covered all but $3 and hubby added a generous tip - can’t blame the waiter entirely for what comes out of the kitchen nor for understaffing!

So the dilemma?? Do you send back unacceptable food and wait until they bring you a new plate? Do you just eat some of it and chalk it up to experience ( and perhaps give them a negative review)? Do you express your disappointment and ask them to take it off the bill?

It's very hard to take selfies!!
