Eggs!

Image
I’m wondering why eggs have changed so much. I bought 3 dozen from a big box store recently.  A very good price and decent taste. I decided to make egg salad.  They were impossible to peel. Almost more trouble than they were worth. The boys are coming over tomorrow for dinner.  They love deviled eggs so that’s on the menu. Because of the trouble with the previous batch I decided to xxxxxbest eggs.  Pricey but perhaps it would be worth it. Sad to say, I just spent at least 45 minutes trying to peel 12 eggs.  What a battle! They are the ugliest deviled eggs ever! Saving grace?  they tasted okay!

Super woman!

Feeling like, maybe just a bit...like a super woman. I got the bathtub drain unclogged!  Hurray!  The right tools and chemicals do help of course.  These new tenants are amazing! Amazingly clean! Amazingly organized! Amazingly ambitious! I’ve been there three times since they moved in and it’s clean.  There is no junk. To top things off the yard is all cleaned up...the bushes are even trimmed!   I think I lucked out!   I guess waiting 2 and a 1/2 months was for the best!

Progress

Three wins for the day...so far. I moved all the junk from the garage...well at least all the stuff, that I was using to fix up the two rentals. I moved all the stuff inside so now it's on my kitchen floor. That was number one.  Number two was using the leaf blower to clean out the garage.  Number three was parking both cars back in the garage. Hooray! The fourth win was what excited me... I got the smelly trash out just before they came by!!  Arie usually does that but he forgot today.

Too much time

I spend the last 8 weeks (off and on) fixing up two vacant rentals.  It’s an interesting process for me.  I plan, work, worry...repeat! And repeat and repeat! So after a busy day, I sleep but wake up early and unfortunately cannot go back to sleep because I “need” to plan my day.   It was all time consuming. But, happy to say that is all done. Both houses are rented. I am sleeping much better. I have fewer worries and/or concerns.  But...I have a terrible cold. So coughing fits are the norm. I’m thankful for OTC medicine. I have lots of time on my hands now.  It’s good for naps.  I also am a phenomenal couch potato now.  No energy and no ambition. Watching TV,  writing texts, playing games,  catching up on email.  I’m looking forward to returning energy levels. As I slowly recuperate, I decided to go shopping. Real “shopping” with no lists and really no needs or wants.  I haven’t done this for a long, long time.   I spent ...

Liquid fence ...I love it!

Image
Liquid fence The stuff smells awful! I used it for the first time this year and then removed the wire I had covering the tulips!  The rabbits are out and about and hungry! Two days later I checked if the rabbits had found them appetizing.  They did not!  I guess it works! We REALLY need some rain!!

The rentals

Image
Two of our rentals were vacated at the end of 2017.  We discovered that people don’t move at the beginning of the year.  They were both vacant until the middle of March.  One moved in last Saturday and one moved in today. I had eight weeks to make them pretty again.  Both needed plenty of TLC.  I was up to the challenge...or so I thought.  Floors were sanded and recoated ...and I learned something in the process.  Stir well or it’s not pretty. Walls are easier to wash than to paint.  I washed a LOT of walls. Kitchen cabinets can be restored with liquid gold...lots of it. I learned to throw all those rags away! Bathtubs and surrounds love ammonia.  My lungs were not to happy. Shower scum that builds up over the years (even though you can’t really see it) is only removed by strong ammonia and a magic eraser.  I do love a shiny clean shower.  I now leave a spray bottle of “daily shower” with my new tenants. Plugged bathtub drains...

Promise

I need to start taking pictures

It’s spring...well almost.

Image
The daffodils are about 4 inches high! The tulips are not far behind!  It’s been very dry and today was sunny! Spring rains are on the way...they say next week! I love this time of year! There’s so much promise in the air. R and I made our first trip to the city yard waste dump...I don’t think we’ve ever gone on opening day!  The dump even looked new and clean.  They had cleared all of last year’s debris to other parts of the dump and it almost looked beautiful.  Lots of promise. The car was filled to the brim with bags and bags of branches and leaves that had wintered in our yards. After that it deserved to be liberated from all its winter dirt and we took it to the “ghetto” car wash or as R calls it “my car wash”. (She insisted on doing the labor.  It’s an art to get it all washed and rinsed in the allotted time). It’s a self serve car wash and she goes there a lot. Best deal in town for $2.00.  The  car now looks newish too. Ava was here a...
