March madness

March madness
...and what a month it has been!

Good things.
I went to Brampton for 3 days.
Tante Tini is doing really well.  Her huge dinner-plate sized bed sore is healed over.  Although, it is still painful, tender, and great care needs to be taken to keep it that way. Either the care at Holland Christian Homes in Brampton is excellent or she rallied because she is "home"... probably both. Her friends come, her pastor also. One thing is certain...she is no longer at death's door.  In November the doctor suggested that we move up her 90th birthday celebration because he did not think she would last that long. She still talks about that day.

I went to Anchorage Alaska for 8 days.
It was so good to be with the girls, Andy and the grandkids. The weather was phenomenal! Cold, crisp, and most of all SUNNY! Everyday!
We went sledding.  Image may contain: one or more people, snow, sky, hat, outdoor and nature
It is quite difficult to get down on the ground for this old lady. Compound that with many layers of clothing and the difficulty increases 100 fold! Image may contain: 1 person, snow, sky, outdoor and nature Quite comical actually! I did make it down the hill a few times. The hills were groomed with a few strategically placed bumps that Aria loved. I preferred staying away from those.

We went on a 5 mile hike to Portage glacier. Image may contain: 2 people, mountain, sky, sunglasses, outdoor, nature and closeup
During the summer the only way to get there is by ferry. In winter it is seldom accessible due to the ice on the lake which does not always freeze completely. This year it has been cold and snowy and the lake was a glorious ice field. The girls and I got on our gear and hiked the lake along with lots and lots of Alaskans and some Japanese tourists. Many were on skis.  One group even brought a party out to the glacier: a barbeque, food and lots of beer and gear.
That day there was NO wind.

Sarah had some Kahtoolas for me to use. They are amazing!
Kahtoola MICROspikes Traction System
They go right over the shoe or boot .

It made walking at their fast pace so much easier!

We went to Bear Tooth Theatrepub.
Movies for $4 and great food ordered before and served inside the theater....and beer, naturally.  We saw the movie LION and would recommend to those who have not seen it.

We went shopping...of course.
Nathania is  (and has been for quite some time) redoing a bathroom.  The paint has been bought, the flooring has been bought. Now she still needs to buy a vanity. It has been non-functional for a long time.
Four adults and two kids had to use the ensuite and the half bath downstairs.  It was fine but not without it's challenges.  We are so spoiled. I grew up in a house with one bathroom and there were 8 kids and our parents. It was fine but not without it's challenges.

We went to the Anchorage Museum.
What an amazing place!  The main exhibits of Native artifacts is stunning. It's a great way to learn about the many different peoples of the far north.

Notice that the word ESKIMO is nowhere to be found.
The museum also has a huge hands-on section for kids! They had a blast and so did we.

We were going to go to Fairbanks
... to see the ice sculptures but decided the 5-6 hour drive was not a good use of the short time we had.  We were doubly glad that we did not go when we heard how cold it was there that weekend...-23F.

All that and March is not done yet.  I came back to a few nice days but we are getting a lot of early April showers.

I'm looking forward to lots of May flowers.
