Lunch at Win tavern in Jenison and 2 nurseries!
It was raining!
Lunch at a place with many trucks in the parking lot! Is that an indication of the quality of the food? Is a burger covered with Mack n cheese considered classy, redneck or weird? Mine was topped with lots of bacon and blue cheese plus the normal deluxe toppings of lettuce, tomato and onion with lovely crispy French fries on the side. It was tasty but a bit dry.
Rose had turkey wrap with a queso dip and side of coleslaw that she seemed to really enjoy—- not a bite left.
It was raining!
We headed over to Kay-Dee’s garden. Lots of lovely flats of annuals for a good price. Rose bought a nice variety for the church garden. She found a flat of 48 blue salvia which are small but will do the trick. The “Victorian Blue” has been hard to find in large flats. She also found some jumbo African marigolds that become huge eye candy towards the end of summer. Waver petunias are also a staple for the church garden! They grow so beautifully in”the crescent “ ! I bought two small geraniums and a Tahitian Bridal Veil which will look spectacular in a hanging basket!
We were done for the day —tired and wet !
Yet, on the way home, we decided to stop in Huizenga Bros. Greenhouses. This is a small nursery that closes in the middle of June, so it’s worth it to buy their plants now. Unfortunately, both Rose and I are going to be away in June and there’s no guarantee that anything would survive. This place sells the most astonishingly beautiful New Guinea impatiens in baskets. All the colors that you can imagine with the biggest flowers we have ever seen! We left without buying anything but I’m thinking I could go back and get a couple that I could “store” at my son’s house. I’m going to give that some thought lol!
It was still raining! The rain gauge indicated 3/4 of an inch!
