Hawaii- winter break part 1

My oldest daughter invited us to join her in Hawaii for winter break! I said yes but hubby said no because he is no longer interested in such LONG trips! So he stayed home in the last throes of winter while I enjoyed a week of 80° weather and sunshine every day! To each his own…I guess!

It was wonderful seeing the grandkids again … it had been too long. FaceTime is wonderful but it’s just not the same!

We put over 600 miles on the cockroach infested rental car. I quite sure the car rental agency was aware of the issue because of the lingering smell of fumigant was obvious when I picked up the car! We weren’t able to exchange the car for another but I did get $50 towards my next rental with them ( that won’t happen lol)!

We were on “the big island” or Hawaii for the first time. For me there were two things of note- no one speeds and things are far apart!

We went to the southern most point in the US which was a very nice but long drive and only marked by road signs.  It surprised us that there was absolutely no signage at the point!

On the way back we stopped at a local business that offered coffee  and macadamia nut tasting. I bought nuts and the kids enjoyed a wonderful tropical smoothie.

We then headed to a beach that was great for snorkeling but too rocky for me to attempt to go in.  The beach had lots of people sitting on the beach enjoying the sights of waves and adventurous young people
