Good food that was different. 

A bit pricey

  • The Post Tavern**
  • This is the restaurant in the newer Ada Hotel (opened August 2024) in Ada. 
  • The place is elegant and subdued! They use porcelain dishes (RAK from uae), heavy cutlery, cloth napkins! 


  • The menu is one page- starters, mains, sides and desserts - a clever idea for a small kitchen!
  • Rose had a wedge salad from the starters section. I picked fish and chips from the mains section! We were pleased!! Mine was too much so half came home.




  • We shared a dessert- Triple Layer Carrot cake! Delicious but we thought the cream cheese frosting needed some more sugar! 


  • We both agreed it was worth a star meaning that we would return in a flash but it was quite a bit pricier than our normal fare!

  • Olive Garden (in search of a light soup salad lunch)
  • We had fun but no stars.
  • The salad has a nice dressing but too chunky and basic (a big bowl to share had only two olives and two small pieces of tomato but lots of plain lettuce in BIG chunks) and croutons!
  • The soup was watery! This was not the same luscious Zappa Toscana that they used to serve. Basically a white, thin, bland broth with lots of potatoes and a few pieces of raw kale!
  • We did celebrate with dessert given that the election was over. The Pumpkin Cookie Butter Cheesecake was delicious ( who comes up with these names?).

  • HopCat  on the Beltline **
  • Good food and decent atmosphere -there’s an impressive wall mural composed of 50,000 bottle caps!
  • We shared an order of the famous Cosmik fries with cheese sauce
  • We split an awesome Reuben sandwich with Killer Mac side- delicious!

  • Paneras *  Good soup and sandwiches. No pictures! I think we were both too tired.  It’s that time of year.

The food was great and the atmosphere pleasant.

  • Russo Ristorante
    • We were not sure about this place. The tomato bisque was very good! BUT - We both had less than positive reactions to the meat in our sandwiches -while flavors were fine the meat was tough! The salad was great and so were the Parmesan fries!

  • Bobcat Bonnie’s (but this time without the *)
    • my soup was cold and so was the grilled cheese sandwich. I sent them back and they came back hot BUT the sandwich which had a sweet pepper sauce that they put on just before serving burned when it was grilled the second time.

Challenges! My youngest daughter loves challenges. Every once in awhile she publishes a challenge on her blog http://sewdutchsisters.blogspot.com/  that usually involves digging into ones endless stash in the craft room. She encourages others to join but I think what it does is really gets her motivated. She currently has 10 challenges ( 1 per week) listed on her blog.  Well, it helped me get into the spirit of things as well. I had a pattern for a robe in my stash. I have always wanted a robe that was not too bulky like the old terry-towel ones of years gone by but not too thin that  it would only be good for summer weather. Every year before and after Christmas I go robe shopping and have never been able to find one that I liked enough to spend money on not to mention the fact that lately the only ones available are made from velour or other synthetic fibers...which ALWAYS give static electric shocks.  So I went to the fabric store....

Blogging from the phone...who knew?

I just learned that it is possible to post to my blog from my phone. My son who needed help today to set up his blog told me. Perhaps this will make me a more faithful blogger, who knows.  For now I'll just practice.  Can I post a picture? New Year's Eve main dish: stuffed shells. They were delicious! We had a party as per usual. Every year I try to challenge our friends in some or another culinary way. Last year each couple was given a country, asked to do a bit if research and prepare an appetizer or dessert from that country.  We enjoyed some wonderful food that we would have never tried on our own.  This year we did a modified version of the TV  show Chopped! The instructions were simple: pick three ingredients from the list of nine and concoct an appetizer, side,salad or dessert on an Italian theme. We had some lovely appetizers and a side/salad. Wednesday Lunch again!

We found a new restaurant to try called The Stray... a music and arts café. It used to be a century-old auto repair shop but you'd never know it!. It's a relaxing venue offering great coffee options, fresh food and local beers. The lunch time that we were there, there were many different ages represented  but none our age- definitely a younger crowd. There were beautiful plants all around and lots of local art displayed on all sides. The menu is varied but not overwhelming! We had some very good food!     Dreamy Italian- salami, honey-ham, bacon, cream cheese  banana peppers, dill pickle, tomato and lots of VERY fresh greens wrapped in a Spinach tortilla.  (I'm going to try this at home)  Farmer's wife- chicken, bacon avocado spread, goat cheese sprinkles, herbs and apple slices on wheat-berry bread.
