An Ethnic Wednesday lunch update BUREK
We went to Al-Bos café today. It's Albanian/Bosnian cafe with quite an extensive menu.
We order beer from that region- pilsner and lager. Nice and light and good and cold.
Burek was our appetizer but it could have been a meal--tasty meat rolled in phyllo dough and fried. A typical Bosnian treat.
Rose ordered a beef stroganoff- a large portion of beef and mushroom forward sauce served with lots of rice and I ordered the SARMA - cabbage rolls in a generous sauce with mashed potatoes.
Both meals were plated well and looked delicious. But, both were rather disappointing in taste.
The stroganoff was a bit bland and the meat was tough! Rose took a lot home.
The cabbage rolls were okay- the cabbage was nice and tender and the meat and rice filling were fine...but needed "something" ...perhaps more spice.
The tomato sauce was definitely disappointing! it had no taste and no spice. The mashed potatoes were "fine"!
It was a hearty, home-style meal. Definitely not "up scale" but good food.
I'm glad we had this experience but I don't think I'd go back except for the Burek!
Arie ate the extra cabbage roll and loved it- especially after he added ketchup and hot sauce!!
