Summer garden-picture overload!!

It’s been a busy month with lots of perennials filling the flowerbeds! It has also been a time of drought! There has been no rain for 30 days which is highly unusual for west Michigan! I have gotten a lot of exercise "chasing" sprinklers! I shudder to think how high the water bill will be!

The Hostas have been particularly impressive!

Penstemon

Almost...

First lily

A creature has been sleeping in the backyard on top of these two plants.

This morning I chopped down a dwarf lilac bush. It was so big that the branches filled my car.

The stump of a dwarf lilac bush that grew to be about 6 feet tall.

This a a dwarf lilac that is about 2 feet tall. I want to try and keep the other one short as well!

Weigela

A tiny cleome (3 inches or so).  I have them coming up in many places and should grow to about 4 feet tall.  They should look gorgeous in August.

One of three nepeta... they are blooming well this year because I have faithfully watered them!

The Carolina Sweetheart Redbud tree that I bought last summer has surprised and amazed me. The leaves are multi-colored and keep changing.  This is definitely my favorite item in the garden!  It's so unusual!!

Pin-cushion plant or scabiosa

Hardy geranium

The peonies are also having a good year!
