Some close-ups but not only daylilies!

Blackeyed stella de oro (https://smokeysgardens.com/daylilies/Black_Eyed_Stella) My yard is my passion...obviously.  I love my hostas and daylilies, but there are many small plants mixed in everywhere and most (dare I say all?) of them, although subdued in comparison, are beautiful up close. Alyssum Hosta flower Petunia Perennial salvia Queen of the Prairie Hardy geranium Astilbe Yarrow \ Coreopsis (tickseed) Gaura Lavender Rudbeckia Blanket flower Marigold Daylily Daylily- First of the "special" ones to bloom.

Strange happenings!

Dat mag ook wel in de krant...!  My husband said that to me this morning. It means - that could go on the news! I was ironing.... I dislike ironing!  On top of that, I was ironing 3 of his shirts! I have NO idea why I decided to iron!  I probably won’t do it again soon! Lol, I won’t make a habit of it!

Tree trimming - long overdue

Image
Our wonderful shade giving maple tree in the backyard had a dead limb of unsafe proportions.  I contacted many tree companies last summer and this year as well and got no response until this month.  They got back to me, came and gave us a quote which we accepted and they came out a week later and got it done in about 4 hours.  (A few other trees were trimmed as well!) Half the tree is gone.  I was worried about three things. 1. The branch would fall and damage the house, the fence or the flowerbeds.  The branch is now gone. 2. The removal would damage all the beds underneath and leave a mess. They trampled very little and cleaned up ALL the mess. 3. The plants used to all that shade will become stressed and struggle all summer. So far it looks good but time will tell . It's only June 18.

Summer garden-picture overload!!

It’s been a busy month with lots of perennials filling the flowerbeds! It has also been a time of drought! There has been no rain for 30 days which is highly unusual for west Michigan! I have gotten a lot of exercise "chasing" sprinklers! I shudder to think how high the water bill will be! The Hostas have been particularly impressive! June Liberty May 11 June 10 Penstemon Almost.. . First lily A creature has been sleeping in the backyard on top of these two plants. This morning I chopped down a dwarf lilac bush. It was so big that the branches filled my car. The stump of a dwarf lilac bush that grew to be about 6 feet tall . This a a dwarf lilac that is about 2 feet tall. I want to try and keep the other one short as well! Weigela A tiny cleome (3 inches or so).  I have them coming up in many places and should grow to about 4 feet tall.  They should look gorgeous in August. One of three nepeta... they are blooming well this year because I have faithfully watered them! T...
