To shop or not

Image
Perfect! Yesterday I was chatting with my sister and trying to convince myself to do a quick run to the supermarket. No eggs, no bread, no veggies beside carrots and celery, no sandwich meat,  Pretty bad state of affairs lol!  But I had chicken in the freezer and a bag of washed lettuce that needed to be eaten. I also had some leftover garlic bread in the freezer.  So that’s easy and no need to run to the store! We are having grilled chicken Caesar salad with homemade dressing and garlic bread!  Willing grill chef! All ready to mix!

A trip to see the cherry blossoms

Y I enjoyed a visit to the Frederick Miejer Japanese gardens to see the cherry trees in blossom. Beautiful.

Dinner

Image
We had a few friends over for dinner last night.  Good food but better conversation, I think, because they stayed until almost midnight.  Menu: ceasar salad, grilled pork tenderloin, scalloped potatoes,  green beans with mushrooms,  glazed carrots, applesauce,  garlic bread and a tortoni for dessert.  A tortoni is a frozen Italian dessert which I made the day prior. I thought I was keeping it simple but I made the Caesar salad dressing,  I fried mushrooms for the green beans, a made the glaze for the carrots, I  prepared the garlic bread (I usually just buy Texas toast) and the scalloped potatoes, which I have not made in years were more work than I remembered - peeled and sliced them, caramelized an onion, made a cheese sauce and assembled it.  Our guests are not veggie aficionados so I was pleased when they went back for seconds! Score!! I guess the extra steps were worth it!

Circle skirt!

Image
I had fabric to use up so I made a circle skirt! The skirts were done and mailed to Alaska! The girls love them but I'm upset because they are so long. Turns out the daughter sent how long they wanted them to be. I assumed that measurement was from waist to knee.  I added a few inches! Oh well... the girls will grow! And they love them!

Pips in pots (hosta language lol)

Image
Every year I'm always so excited  to see the hosta pips emerge from the soil in the pots! Some are left outdoors and some ( the minis and shallower pots) are left in the garage.   This year every one survived!! I place the larger pots outdoors close to the house and just forget about them... no leaves, no water etc . The ones in the garage are on a shelf and get no attention either.  I feel pretty surprised to see those pips in the spring. Let's see what they look like in two weeks. These are minis. Annoyingly, the tags moved ... even while in the garage! There was nothing showing in here yesterday! M

Easter/ birthdays /family

Image
The Michigan part of the family came for dinner on Easter. Fellowship and food were good.  Ava celebrated her 15th birthday and wanted a chocolate cake with chocolate.  frosting and chocolate swirl ice cream. It tasted great but now I have 3/4 of a cake in the freezer. They had fun posing for pictures! The annual $1 streamer- $15 this year! Im not sure how this snuck in here but that's okay-- they are cute!
