Alaska winter 2022 memories

Anchorage, Alaska was beautiful! We were invited up to babysit the granddaughters. Grandparents have a difficult time resisting an invitation like that, right?  We decided to drive to Chicago in order to take the direct, early morning flight to Anchorage in order to have time to adjust to the 4 hour time difference. The roads were great, the hotel was very, very clean and had good beds plus there was a good brewery close by for dinner. We had the opportunity to do so much with girls! Illustrated story by June. I did Celia's hair and she protested heartily so I took a photo to prove that she did indeed have a 'pony'! Endless fashion shows! So much energy!! Thanksgiving Day dessert Have you heard of turduckon? this is a piecake something or other. Pies are baked into cakes. Pumpkin pie in a layer of pumpkin cake, Pecan pie in a layer of chocolate cake and Apple pie in a layer of spice cake! I'm not quite sure HOW it is done but it was very tasty! It was cold there!! Snow! Anchorage and Grand Rapids.

Two snow stories! We spent 18 days in Anchorage Alaska (Nov 19 to Dec 5) and enjoyed clear roads mostly and very cold temperatures.   We arrived home on Monday and then Tuesday night to Wednesday they got 2 feet of snow and it continues to accumulate. Schools have been closed for 6 days already! We have had very little snow in Grand Rapids so far in December .  We drove to Brampton on Wednesday and returned Friday. It’s 6-7 hours each way. The highway was wonderfully dry both ways UNTIL 10 miles from home!  So thankful! This morning it looks like this and all day snow is forecasted,,

On her birthday, 12/15, she was celebrated in the apartment of some friends. I’m not sure how much she participated but she said she enjoyed it! Our hosts: Hennie and Jim Visser Reading her cards What will next year bring?? On Friday morning, Arie, John and I attended the weekly hymn sing with her. The hall was full of wheelchairs.  Some of the residents sang in full voice, others slept and others perked up ...
