Mississippi Mudslide Cake

Is delicious enough?

We held a small dinner party/ birthday party for a friend last night.

It was originally going to be just 7 people but hubby invited a few more people at church on Sunday.  Surprised me!!

So it turned out to be 11.  We can accommodate that easily now that we have two tables.

It was a simple supper of burgers cooked on the grill, potato salad,  fruit salad and chips. Lots of beverages - it was a hot night.

Anyway,  I thought a birthday required a birthday cake...right?  I had this recipe for Mississippi Mudslide cake that I found a long time ago. I was waiting for an occasion to make this because it looked like it would be a big...really big, cake.  It even called for some Kalua and some Baileys- I've had those two hidden away in the house for a long time.  It had been so long since I had bought it that I really had to search the house for it.

Anyway, back to the cake.  I followed the instructions carefully and had all things done and I was ready to assemble it.  Three chilled 9 inch chocolate cakes,  a chilled ganache,  crushed oreo cookies and a big bowl of whipped cream, a plate to put it on, a spatula and a piping bag. This did not seem like rocket science.

One cake covered with a heavy layer of whipped cream, drizzled with chocolate ganache and topped with crushed Oreo cookies.... repeat two times more.

Sounded so yummy!! And looked SO ugly! Nothing refined about this cake lol. I tried to remedy the look by piping whipped cream everywhere.

It was a cake!! I popped into the freezer and hoped that  it would taste much better than it looked!!

The consensus was that it was not ugly and taste divine! The candles helped.

And Rose had a birthday cake!!

But is delicious enough??  I say NO! I will make this again because it was delicious. There will be some modifications and it will be delicious AND beautiful! I'll keep you posted.
