Spring records: heat and drought
This year is the same as many others in that the need to get out the sprinklers came early. I am not looking forward to seeing the water bill lol! It has been hot- record breaking temperatures- this spring.
As I look out over the yard, coffee cup in hand, I see the “ fruits” of my labor.
The peonies are spectacular! Tall plants with lots of buds standing tall... until the much needed rain came and they bowed down... next year they will all be caged.
I transferred four of my mini Hostas to a pot because they were too hidden to be enjoyed. They seem to like their new home!
I planted seeds that I had saved from last year. 10 tomato plants need a spot in the yard. Would they look funny in the front yard behind the fence? I am not sure but if I can tolerate a rather ugly fence there, I don’t think it matters. It is a nice sunny spot.
This winter was odd, even though it was long it did not snow that much. ALL the snapdragons returned and are spectacular! The columbines also put on a good show.
The bleeding hearts, red and white, were a grand show stopper! I’m so thankful that the deer truly don’t like them!
Lastly, the baptisia were enjoying showing off their contentment by providing the garden with some spring color. Yellow, chocolate brown and the blue - subtle yet impressive!
