CANCEL CULTURE

Cancel culture scares me.  This week a young woman who had posted some negative things on twitter TEN years ago when she was SEVENTEEN was forced to resign as editor of Teen Vogue. She had not even started the job yet. She had publicly apologized for her youthful indiscretion but that was not good enough!  She is a racist!!! Right?? This has got to stop!! This why "cancel culture" scares me!

Covid travelling

Image
I have taken 2 major trips during this new normal. The first one was last May (2020) to visit our children and grandchildren in Anchorage, Alaska. The second trip was to Hawaii (March 2021). Both trips were wonderful -wonderful weather, wonderful family time, wonderful relaxation...I could go on. The first trip had been planned before all this craziness hit the fan, while second trip was more spontaneous and fulfilled a desire to get out of here. We talked about this so called "need" to get out of here. Our lives haven't changed that much in so many ways.  I go grocery shopping,  I volunteer, I can go to church, I can go to the doctor and the dentist, I can visit with friends ... which all seems very normal BUT the felt "need" to take this trip was strong. Why did I have such a strong feeling to get out of here?  Now that I'm back I am still not sure.   I needed a negative covid test to enter Hawaii, we had to wear masks everywhere (even walking down the st...

New challenges!

Image
Challenges Typing with ONLY my left hand. Showering  Eating (even preparing food) Sleeping, I could go on but I am sure you get the picture. If not, I’ll take picture.   Taking a selfie is another obvious challenge! At 8:00 am , walking in the mall, I tripped  over my shoe And twisted around and very awkwardly landed on the floor. I fell backwards onto a very hard floor and my wrist took the hardest hit! It is a radial fracture - the tip broke off in 2 spots and cracked in a third. I have it set in a temporary cast. It will be evaluated in two weeks to make sure it has stayed in place. If so, I will get a permanent cast which will stay on for 8-10 weeks. If not, I will need surgery to install a few pins. That cast would only have to stay on a few weeks! I don’t want surgery but I don’t want to wait until the end of May to get in the yard. Biggest challenge? Waiting!

Jetlag!

Jetlag!  It seems to get worse as I age and travel. I feel normal today for the first time since I got back last Wednesday! So maybe it is true that it takes about 1 day per hour of time difference to fully recover.  It's nasty but it was worth it! I loved spending time with the daughters and the grands!  Realizations??  A covid, 70 plus body needs to reform. Haha!  My resolutions are to get more exercise, drink more (lots more) water, get lots of sleep, eat less sugar and after dinner - eat nothing until the following day!  So  -I've increased my walking, put air in the exercise ball and slowly stretching more. I believe in baby steps! -I am trying to get more comfortable on the ball and stretching a lot. -I am drinking lots of water.  Someone suggested putting some lime juice and a pinch of salt into the water.  I hope that helps! -I still need to work on the sugar! haha! -I am at 50% so far for not eating after dinner. I hope b...

HAWAII 2021

Image
Just got back from a wonderful and much needed winter break.  I went to Maui, Hawaii with my girls and their kids (from Anchorage). We stayed in a 2 bedroom condo so it was a bit cramped for space but it worked.
