What to do in Alaska during this Corona time!!

Why go to Alaska right now?

Alaska is quite determined to keep the covid 19 cases low in their state and while that makes going there a bit complicated it was not as difficult as we thought it might be.

COVID TESTS
We arrived with proof of a negative test that was less than 72 hrs old and with that we were able to file a declaration that was sent to our phones.  They gave us a voucher for a test to be done there within 7 to 14 days.  We did it on day 15, left on day 17 and received negative results via email the the day after we returned.

RESTRICTIONS
They ask that tourists do not go to crowded venues like restaurants and movie theaters.  We did a lot of take out.  Many places are closed.  Masks are required everywhere.

THINGS TO DO
We go to Alaska frequently to visit our children and grandchildren so we don't do many touristy things.
We decided to drive to Talketna and take a flight tour over Denali State park.  Although the peaks were socked in by clouds, it was amazing!

We also took the train to Seward.  That is very relaxing and safe (only 50% capacity). The scenery again was spectacular. We left early 7:00 AM Wednesday and returned on the 6:00 PM train the next day.  We arrived in Anchorage a bit after 10:00 PM.  If you go check the weather- it rained a lot on day two and there is NOTHING to do in Seward if you don't take an ocean cruise to see the icebergs etc.  After spending three hours in the Alaska Sea Life Center, we had to hang out in the hotel lobby for too many hours trying to entertain two little girls.

Floating the Kenai
We took a rafting float down the Kenai river.  It is very scenic and relaxing.  We saw some eagles and saw quite a few salmon jumping. The river has #1 and #2 rapids so nothing too boisterous.
We felt quite safe with the 1 and 2 yr olds while the 6 yr old and the 9 yr old loved it up front.  The only downside...it's a good 3 hour drive from Anchorage.

It was good to be there and it is good to be back home.
