WE HAD THE DINNER
I SLEPT WELL LAST NIGHT! Major regret---no pictures were taken!
AFTER DOING THIS: (notes in brackets!)
DINNER with wine pairings
FOR 8 PEOPLE
Appetizer: crackers with cream cheese and jalapeno jelly, olives and bacon wrapped dates with champagne. Soup: coconut curry (forgot the rice noodles but it was still tasty) with cabbage and carrot toppings with a white wine, Salad: mixed greens, apples, dried cherries with a lemon vinaigrette and a balsamic drizzle topped with candied pecans (forgot the goat's cheese) with a rose wine. Palette cleaners; mango and raspberry sorbets. Main: grilled flank steak with mushroom sauce, pan-fried pork tenderloin medallions with mustard sauce (forgot the chopped parsley) , hasselback potatoes (almost burned them in the broiler), grilled root veggies, shredded Brussels sprouts with bacon. A Malbec wine. (thinking back...I realized we didn't put out serving spoons...oops) Cheese course: 4 cheeses- Vat 17 cheddar (from cheese lady) , triple cream brie, Gouda, manchego with a few crackers and grapes- With a savingon blanc. Dessert: chocolate mousse and a sweet red rosscati wine. (no crust next time and perhaps in a choc cup instead) No coffee. We started at 6 and served the last course at 8. They left at 9 Kitchen clean up by 10 CRAZY.EVENING
The evening went well.
One rather scary thing happened. After Arie went out and bought a new tank for the grill he was shocked to realize that before he could finish grilling the steak...there was no more gas! There must be a leak in the hose! It was scary because the broiler inside was being used for other things. There was enough steak done well enough from the ends to serve and it was well received!
Added concerns to be remembered of we ever do this again.
I bought inexpensive wines which worked out well because this about the food NOT the wine.
$3.00 Chuck from Trader Joe's -white and Rose. I also bought a Cava there.
Malbec and savingon blanc from Aldi's
The dessert wine was from Meijer.--went REALLY well with the chocolate dessert.
I made too much mushroom sauce and the mustard sauce was too thin!
The Brussels sprouts were not too popular.
