Growing

Image
Lots and lots of hostas. I potted 84 and see growth in each pot.  The others are all growing wherever they are...

Big date!

Julie's and Aaron's baby was born yesterday. Asher Tygo Leder  8 lbs 13 oz. 22 3/4 inches  Big boy!  All is going well.

Feisty feisty!!

Feisty...Tante Tini I guess that's necessary after almost 90 years living on your own. ...and what a strong faith in God!! A fall, a night alone, a heart attack, a fractured femur...pretty tough woman! Life is going to change but she's not fighting it. Whatever the future holds, she will go with the flow-- strong in knowing she is in God's hands. I told her I was counting on coming to that 90th birthday party in December. Hoping pneumonia won't raise it's ugly head! (Sat 27/16)

Location is everything

Planted a few begonias this year. These two were planted at the same time.

Ugly??

I let cardinal flowers reseed in my yard every year and let them stay wherever they come up.. They attract hummingbirds. As I sit here -7:30 AM -gazing over my yard -coffee in hand - traffic noises spoiling the quiet of the morning --I have decided that the cardinal flowers are kinda of ugly. They spoil my view. I need to let them sprout up in different beds BUT that would be too far away to enjoy seeing the hummingbird visitors.

What's wrong with me??

Tomatoes? Yes I have tomatoes.  Lots and lots of tomatoes. So what's my problem?? I'm trying to figure out if it's because I am an immigrant kid, or if my mother had the same issue, or if it is because of the years of missionary service, or if I am just a cheapskate or trying to be uber stewardly or if I just love plants.  Whatever it is...it is getting out of hand. This was about tomatoes..I know. I'm getting to that. I intentionally planted 8 tomato plants in a garden. Romas, cherries, big ones and medium size ones.  I'm getting a nice harvest and am willing to share. What I did not plant intentionally are the lovely volunteers that sprung up in my yard from last year's seeds. All cherry tomatoes.  They are tasty and abundant. ..and growing among my flowerbeds in 4 locations. I picked cherry tomatoes about 30 minutes ago. I searched high and low and got them all ...and least the red ones. I sorted and cleaned them. green, discards and ready to eat. ...

A new experiment

I had two very large and we'll established hostas in the same flower bed. I decided one had to go but I was unable to dig it out and half of the other. Nathan came and did the deed. About two weeks later I decided to cut it all down to bare - root and plant them. I got many, many empty small plastic pots from a friend who likes to save things like that. I dug up four smallish buckets of dirt from under the composter. That was all the dirt I was going to dig so when it was gone I would stop. In the end I got 84 small hostas planted. Here's hoping they all come up. Trouble is...there at least that many left to plant.
