Who Knew??

Who knew that a deer invasion would put me on the warpath? I didn't! A friend was over helping me in the yard this afternoon in the front yard! We worked, we rested and talked!  Lilies: Oriental, Asiatic and Day Come see this new one...in the backyard! It is quite spectacular with a definite WOW! One lily led to another ...only they weren't all there!! A deer, or for all I know a herd of deer, had decided to wander around the yard last night and eat only the delicacies: day-lily buds (the fattest ones of course), the tops of the tomato and potato plants and some hosta buds.  So war was declared! I went out and spent money...probably too much, on Liquid Fence and Sweeny's Deer Repellent.  I also have a homemade pepper spray. At 10:00 PM (I had a meeting to go to ) I was out there with my arsenal...the neighbors probably thought I was the crazy 'garden' lady but that's probably better than being the crazy cat lady... I sprayed everything ...

The day lilies have begun

Day Lilies Last summer I bought quite a few new day lilies. They should bring a bit of WOW to the garden. The most fun is when I see they are actually producing buds and then to see them open.  The Stella d'oro blooms first along with Black eyed stella. Lots of blooms but truthfully not so much 'wow'    The next ones that opened are a bit more flamboyant because of their shapes.  This one has beautifully scalloped edges. This one a bright lemon yellow color, scalloped edges and an intricate center.

MY THING=MY YARD

It's so nice to have friends to do crazy things with! R and J and I spent Sunday evening, Monday and Tuesday morning in a lovely "cottage" on Lake Michigan. Lots of laughs, good food, a few drinks, cows etc. The food: Sunday evening (after a long walk down to the beach 188 stair steps!) Pigs-in-a-blanket , wine and quinoa salad! After a few games of Quiddler and Boggle we called it a night. Talk about competitive old women lol! A crazy wild rain storm blew through the area making us glad we had arrived earlier than planned. The food on Monday was non-stop deliciousness!  Good way to start the morning! Coffee oven-baked bacon, scrambled eggs and cheese with lots of coffee naturally! We then headed out to explore. First stop:   Country Dairy for a tour. aging of the cheese. On the way to Montegue we searched for and found the farm that raises the Galloway Belted Cow.  The Belted Galloway cattle breed have been mainly...

Just need to tell someone...

Well,  I got a ton accomplished today and  no one is around so I guess I'll have to brag here. It's a very odd thing that feeling after writing down in a blog even though no one probably reads it.  This morning I slept until 7:00 and it felt wonderful. I did  various and sundry things around the house and then headed outside. The weeds and the deadheads were calling. By 11 things looked much better so I decided to pack it all in the car and head to the yard waste dump. Rose came too so we went out for coffee and... afterwards.  I went to the Plymouth house to turn on the water and in turn met the parents of Michael Weber. Then off to Marissa's to enjoy her yard and get some plants. I planted them as soon as I got home. I mowed the front AND the back lawns and turned on the sprinkler.  Shower number two. Chicken salad 'lunch' and rest. Now I am off to get Joe and head to Lowes and then Horrocks. The girls and I are headed to the cottage tom...
