The Dump
So, in Grand Rapids there is a dump for yard waste and it's free. At least there is no money involved but it is not without cost...physical cost.
We have a very nasty truck that roars like a tank and makes me feel like a redneck grandma as I drive it to the dump.
This morning, we loaded up the truck with bags and bags of leaves and branches and off I went to the dump, carefully staying below the speed limit and praying that I wouldn't be stopped for a noise violation. To tell the truth it was kind of fun!
I arrived at the dump without incident and off-loaded my bags and watched as the man parked next to me proceeded to dump an entire trailer of BEAUTIFUL mulch! He told me it was the remains of 22 yards of mulch that they had ordered! 22 yards!! I can't even imagine that much mulch!
Needless to say, I was not able to resist helping myself to the stuff. I filled bags and the back of the truck with as much of the stuff as I had energy. That was the cost! I ended up with enough to liberally mulch all but one flowerbed of the yard where we were working.
I should have taken a picture of the next load I drove to the dump: 27 bags full plus a few garbage cans full. That's what happens when you have a yard with 7 huge oak trees and you have tenants that don't clean up the yard.
Guess what? When I got back to the dump...YEAH... the mulch was still there for the taking...and I took.
So now I am dead tired, I hurt all over, I know my body will hate me in the morning BUT the yard looks fabulous and it was FREE! (I feel very Dutch tonight!!)
Pictures will be posted tomorrow...............
