Wednesday lunch

We are getting lazy and uninspired …it’s that time of year…and so has our motivation to find new restaurants to try. As a consequence, we have been doing repeats.
Last Wednesday we went to Morning Belle...it's been a positive experience in the past.  It's still popular and frequented by those seeking breakfast or lunch.
I ordered a breakfast (for lunch) - eggs, bacon, and a pancake. What could go wrong? Burned bacon, eggs in weird smelling and tasting grease and an overcooked pancake- that's what!
Rose had a BLT avocado with a sauce on a pretzel bun. What could go wrong? No avocado and a sliver of tomato, no sauce -that's what!


We don't usually but this time we did complain. The waitress was full of excuses and the manager did not appreciate out candor.  He did comp our meals ...reluctantly. 
Afterwards, we were very surprised that the waitress totally dissed us. Rose even tried to speak with her and she hurried on by.  We somehow got on her wrongside right from the start but we don't know why. She didn't come by and ask about our food, no second cup of coffee etc.  We watched her being friendly and sweet to those at tables nearby. We almost took back our tip....almost!
I hope we have a better experience next week!

 Just so I don’t forget. This all started with the latest edition of the Cooks Illustrated magazine. It’s a new format and seems to have a new focus.  I found myself wanting to prepare a lot of the recipes but I did not have all the ingredients required so I shopped first. Today I stared with Guinness Chocolate Cake. I ended up making two so I could use the entire can of Guinness!  One will go in the freezer for a birthday. It was pretty dense.  The thick layer of good cream cheese frosting helped.   Then I made a small batch of cookies- one bowl, one pan, 12 decent-sized Coffee Toffee cookies! ( Arie really likes them but I am not a fan -  not enough coffee).  Then on to the sauces and dip for oven-fried chicken wings. Superbowl 50

Well, I sat through the entire game without leaving the room.  It was an effort! The company was great and so was the food. We also enjoyed the commercials...so creative!! The guys talked theology  intermittently.  I think there is way too adulation around the football throne and probably all sports in general. We love and expect to be entertained. Even the 'national anthem' is a spectator sport...
